9Muses Art Center is a Consumer Empowerment Program at the Mental Health Association of Broward County
9Muses Art Center is a project designed to provide those with mental illness an opportunity for self expression and recovery through the arts.
Participants are free to choose from a broad array of visual and performance arts. Classes and personalized instruction along with individual studio time allow each artist to create according to his/her own personal muse.
9Muses is open to people with psychiatric diagnoses and also to those in the community who are without diagnosis but interested in pursuing the arts and engaging in stimulating activity without regard for stigma or labels.
Artistic expression and community integration at 9Muses promote understanding and acceptance both for those with illness and for those without.
Together our members make a difference, challenging stigma, embracing expression and creating opportunity via the arts.
9Muses membership, workshops and materials are free for mental health consumers. Annual membership for non- consumers is $100.00. Members also have the opportunity to sell their art work through the center and receive 75% of the selling price.
Opportunities for creative expression at 9Muses include:
Piano, guitar, drawing, watercolor, pen & ink, acrylic painting, computers, computer graphics, creative writing, art appreciation, ceramics, clay handbuilding, potter's wheel, healing circle, yoga, band practice, voice, music theory, knit & crochet, greeting cards, recovery-focused workshops, outings, and parties.
