ADOPTION OF CHILDREN

Adoption types include: international, interstate, agency, step-parent, children with special needs, and independent, which is adoption through an attorney. Each type of adoption has different requirements, fees, and legal requirements. A qualified attorney or agency is advised in any adoption.

A home study is required in all cases except step-parent adoption.

Closed adoptions are those when no communication occurs between the birth and adoptive parents. Open adoptions usually indicates the birth and adoptive parents know each others identities, which sometimes includes  visitation rights  for the birth parent or parents.
