ADVOCACY GROUPS

ADVOCACY GROUPS provide information and supportive

services for consumers, friends and family, and often work

to promote political action on behalf of persons with mental

illness.

A coalition of consumers, friends, family and advocates representing

drop-in centers, support groups, community mental health centers,

substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, and children with a direct link

to the Department of Children and Families Substance Abuse & Mental

Health Program Office, District 10. Meets to discuss issues of importance

to consumers on the first Wednesday of the month at 11:00AM.

All consumers and friends are welcome and invited to participate.

Investigates allegations of abuse/neglect and rights violations for people

with psychiatric disabilities. Individuals may reside in a facility that cares for

or treats them or in the community. Other programs provide assistance to

persons who receive social security or who have needs regarding

vocational rehabilitative services, ADA issues, developmental disabilities

and problems with assistive devices.

Advocates for consumers in Broward County. Handles complaints about

Baker Act and rights issues, program satisfaction, job information, peer

evaluations specialists, recovery-focused surveys, and outreach services

to programs. Provides resource information and referral. Represents the

consumer's voice in the Florida state-funded system in planning services

for children and adults, mental health and substance abuse issues. Online

complaint form with a secure server and suggestion form for receiving

complaints or comments directly from the public about state-funded

programs and services.
