Provides court representation in civil actions for the indigent including

interview by a paralegal or attorney, court preparation, appearance and

concluding interview to explain judicial determination of the case. Will not

handle fee-producing cases, criminal cases and traffic cases. Divorce

unit is only located at central office.

Assists individuals who have been turned down for SSD/SSI. Services free

for low income people who qualify and for those 60+ years who need help

with landlord/tenant evictions, housing conditions, AFDC/Food Stamps,

Medicaid/Medicare, home ownership or mortgage foreclosure, hospital

collections or utility cut-off and other poverty law issues. Unit for income eligible

people infected with HIV/AIDS.

Judge Michelle Towbin-Singer

For those with severe, persistent mental illness who have committed a

felony and are declared incompetent to proceed or not guilty by reason of

insanity. Judge determines if the client goes to a forensic hospital for

competency restoration or a conditional release plan with a probation

officer.

Judge Ginger Lerner Wren

Diversion court dedicated to the safe and appropriate diversion of persons

with serious mental illness or mental disability that requires hospitalization

and/or community based treatment. Voluntary court based on principles of

choice, client-centered treatment and recovery. Objective is to promote

public safety and personal recovery. Misdemeanors only. No DUI or

domestic violence.
