F.I.S.H. Project -- Families Invested in Support for Health
FISH offers a caring resource for families of children who have been identified as SED (severely emotionally disabled) or whose children may be exhibiting behaviors associated with mental illness.  FISH offers free services to parents/caregivers.  Services include support groups, in home and group parent training, peer mentoring and advocacy training.  FISH is about empowering families toward self-support, self-advocacy and health.  It follows the adage, “Give a person a fish…he/she is fed for a day.  Teach a person to fish…he/she is fed forever.”  FISH helps families to invest in themselves and their children today so that they all may enjoy a healthier tomorrow.

Peers Reaching Out:  Support Partners for Emotional Recovery

P.R.O.S.P.E.R is a recovery initiative sponsored by the Mental Health Association of Broward County.  Adults, eighteen and over, who are residents of Broward County and who are being treated for a behavioral disorder are eligible to participate in this PEER MENTORING PROGRAM.

The premise of the program is that two people working as a team can provide mutual support which will help both partners along tile road to recovery. Participants commit to the principle that recovery from a behavioral disorder can be achieved.

Partners agree to assist one another by learning and adhering to the ten components of recovery set forth in the National Consensus Statement published by SAMSHA. They commit to spending at least six hours together every week engaged in activities designed to promote recovery (i.e. support groups, workshops, life-skill classes, etc.) In addition, they are eligible to participate in social activities of their choice, which include fitness programs, nutrition classes and outings to places of their interest.

Participants in the P.R.O.S.P.E.R. program maintain a log of their activities, and agree to attend monthly meeting at which they share, information, are informed about future activities, and discuss current progress as well as difficulties they may have experienced during the previous month. Partners commitment to the development and direction of the program permits participation in quarterly reports including their own words of recovery, and how Peers Reaching Out: Support Partners for Emotional Recovery has impacted their lives.
